Weather patterns in Florida during this time of year naturally include intermittent storms. Soccer play will continue in just rain, but will halt immediately for lightning. There is no way of knowing if or when we may experience lightning; however, knowing how the tournament will manage games during lightning delays will be helpful.
We are equipped with lightning detection equipment and we will blow horns to alert you. If the horns sound, please have your team VERY QUICKLY seek safety IN THEIR VEHICLES, do not leave the park, and wait for further instructions. The tournament will monitor the weather and after 30 minutes from the last lightning detection, the Resume Play horns will sound and emails & texts will be sent to Coaches & Team Managers through Got Soccer. We will also communicate these through our Twitter feed (go to @ChargersSC or Twiter.com/ChargersSC).
If lightning delays are experienced, here is how your games will be handled:
· If a lightning delay occurs in the 2nd half of your game, the game will be considered complete and the score at that time will be posted as final.
· If a lightning delay occurs in the first half of your game’s 1st half, when it is safe to resume play, the game will resume and will continue for the amount of time left in your 1st half. That will be the end of the game and the score will be posted as final.
· If the lightning delay occurs in the last half of your game’s 1st half, when it is safe to resume play, the game will resume and will continue for one period of time that totals the amount of time that was left in your 1st half plus half of your 2nd half (e.g. if in a U14 game lightning occurs at the 20th minute, when play resumes, the game will go for 25 more minutes -- the 10 minutes left of the 1st half plus 15 minutes of the 2nd half). The lightning delay will be treated as the half time break. At the end of that period of play, the game will be complete and the score will be posted as final.
· If there is a second lightning delay in that same game, the game will be considered complete at that time and the score will be final.
Upon the Resume Play notifications, please have your team VERY QUICKLY return to the fields for a quick warm-up and then the referees will resume play. It will be important to get your play in and reduce any delays to the following game on your field.
If multiple lightning delays occur during the day, subsequent games that day may have shortened halves or may be rescheduled in order to get the games in. You will be notified if those events occur and it will be posted on the tournament web page.
As listed in the Tournament Rules (13. External Conditions, Weather, etc.), “In the event unusual conditions necessitate the rescheduling, curtailment, shortening or cancellation of games, the Tournament Committee shall have absolute authority to make changes in order to best serve the completion of the tournament. No protests of the Tournament Committee decisions due to format changes necessitated by external conditions will be allowed.”
